Four Selected As UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

Hrabal, Ufko, Quigg and Pierce to be honored at UMass Sports Luncheon.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts student-athletes Michael Hrabal and Ryan Ufko of hockey, Sammy Quigg of men's swimming and diving, and Summer Pierce of women's swimming and diving were tabbed as the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive College Credit Union on Tuesday. All four student-athletes will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday at the Berkshire Dining Commons.
Hrabal earned both wins in net for UMass against Providence, playing 120:56 and stopping 53 of 56 shots over the pair of games for a .946 save percentage and a 1.49 goals against average on the week. The Prague, Czechia native made 21 saves in Thursday's win on the road in Providence before tying his career best with 32 stops on Saturday at the Mullins Center.
Ufko helped lead the Minutemen to two victories over the Friars, scoring in both contests. In last Thursday's 3-2 come-from-behind victory in Providence, the Smithtown, New York native netted the game-tying goal on the power play in the third period. He also scored the overtime game winner on Saturday in a 2-1 victory after registering a team-high five shots on goal and blocking three shots. Ufko led a UMass defense that allowed just 1.50 goals per-game on the week and went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill, which included a five-minute major.
Quigg and the Minutemen took second at the Terrier Invitational this past weekend with a score of 1,579.5. Quigg took first in the 50 free, swimming the programs seventh fastest time of 20.46, before recording the seventh fastest time all-time and a personal-best at 1:37.93 for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle. The Merritt Island, Florida, native set a new school record in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall first with a time of 44.02, marking a personal-best. During the relays, he aided the 200 freestyle relay team (1:22.82) and the 400 medley team (3:18.74) to second-place finishes. He also helped the 800 freestyle relay team to the gold, combining for a time of 6:40.70.
Pierce earned three first-place finishes in individual events at the terrier Invitational as the Minutewomen placed third with a total of 1,223. In the 200 individual medley, she swam a personal-best time of 2:01.68, marking the second fastest time in school history, to earn the gold, before touching the wall first in the 100 butterfly with a new school record time, and a personal-best, of 53.77. The fifth year, set another new school record in the 200 butterfly, picking up the gold after swimming a personal-best of 1:59.68. Pierce placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a personal-best time of 1:03.54, marking the seventh fastest time in program history. In the relay events, Pierce aided the 400 medley relay team to second with a new school record time of 3:43.71, before finishing third with the 200 medley relay team that broke the previous school record with their time of 1:42.15. She also helped the 400 freestyle relay team to a seventh-place finish with a combined time of 3:31.93 and the 200 freestyle relay team to eighth with a time of 1:36.05.
