No. 20 Massachusetts Field Hockey Seniors Lead the Way to 4-0 Victory Over La Salle

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The No. 20 Massachusetts field hockey team defeated the La Salle Explorers on Friday afternoon in Atlantic 10 play. The contest, held at DeVincent Field in Philadelphia, Pa., heightened Massachusetts to a 9-2 overall record (3-0 Atlantic 10) and lowered La Salle to a 3-8 overall record (0-3 Atlantic 10).
Just 1:12 into the first quarter, senior Bella Ianni opened up scoring off a corner, with an assist credited to senior Jess Beech. Then, one minute and forty seconds later, senior Steph Gottwals notched an unassisted tally at 2:52 in the first quarter.
After a quiet second quarter, Beech notched a penalty stroke goal at 4:55 in the third quarter. Shortly thereafter, junior Claire Danahy notched a goal, with an assist from Ianni, at 6:05 in the third quarter.
The Minutewomen led the Explorers in shots (10-6) and shots on goal (7-4), while La Salle led in corners (7-5). Massachusetts goalkeeper Myrte van Herwijnen recorded 4 saves, while La Salle goalkeeper Ryan Curley recorded 3 saves.
Massachusetts Field Hockey is back in action on Friday, October 7 at 3 p.m. as they head back to Philadelphia to take on the No. 10-ranked Saint Joseph's University Hawks.
