Minutewomen suffer first A-10 loss of the season.
PHILADELPHIA - No. 18 University of Massachusetts field hockey fell to No. 9 Saint Joseph's University, 3-0, at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday afternoon. The loss drops UMass to an 9-3 overall record and a 3-1 Atlantic 10 Conference record, while SJU improves to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in league play.
The Hawks broke open the scoring as Freke van Tilburg, capitalizing on a penalty corner three minutes and 33 seconds into the first quarter. van Tillburg notched her second goal of the day at 10:13 of the third quarter on a passing sequence during a corner, before Noa Schuringa redirected the ball to give Saint Joseph's its third goal of the afternoon.
Myrte van Herwijnen registered five saves on the day. The Hawks took six penalty corners, while the Minutewomen had one.
Massachusetts heads to New Haven, Connecticut on Sunday, October 9, to face Yale at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
