Kent and Mrázová Garner MAC Weekly Awards
October 06, 2026 | Field Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. – Sophie Kent and Rozárie Mrázová of the UMass field hockey team have earned Mid-American Conference weekly awards, as Kent was named the Defensive Player of the Week while Mrázová earned Goalkeeper of the Week. The Minutewomen have now won awards in five of the six weeks so far this season.
Over the course of the weekend, Kent had a defensive save, but her impact went far beyond any individual stats. A defensive midfielder, Kent made a defensive save in Friday's 3-2 win over No. 14 Miami, UMass' first D save of the season. She was part of the defensive penalty corner unit that successfully defended 15-of-17 penalty corners on the afternoon, as UMass' streak reached 44 straight corners defended before Miami's fourth-quarter goal. The Minutewomen held Miami scoreless for the game's first 46:45, extending UMass' shutout streak to 399:32. Then on Sunday at No. 7 UConn, Kent helped hold the Huskies to just eight shots and only two shots on goal in 75 minutes of action (regulation plus 15-minute overtime). UConn's two shots on goal tied for its fewest of the season (also at Harvard). It was the Huskies' fewest shots on goal at home in nearly four years, since Oct. 16, 2022 against Boston College and fewest penalty corners (1) since having none last season at UMass.
Mrázová was sensational against a pair of nationally-ranked teams, stopping 14-of-17 shots sent her way. She began with a career-high 13 saves in Friday's 3-2 win over No. 14 Miami. The career high includes her time at Maine. She helped the Minutewomen to victory despite being outshot 30-5 for the game. She had three saves in the first, four in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth. Mrázová shut out Miami for the game's first 46:45, as the Minutewomen held opponents scoreless for 26+ straight quarters. She also helped shut down 15 of Miami's 17 penalty corners, extending the Minutewomen's streak to 44 straight penalty corners defended before giving up a fourth-quarter goal. Her late first-quarter save was No. 5 on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays of the Day. Mrázová also made a huge save with 1:02 remaining to help ice the victory. She went on to make a save on Sunday at No. 7 UConn, a very impressive first-quarter stop to keep the game scoreless. Mrázová made several shootout saves as well, as the game went to eight rounds of shootouts, including another SportsCenter Top 10 play in the shootout that made No. 8 on its daily countdown.
Now at No. 5 in the NFHCA national poll, the Minutewomen return home on Friday to host Appalachian State at 4 p.m. presented by Mass General Brigham. It's also a Mental Health Awareness Game and Paint It Pink.
