No. 18 Massachusetts Field Hockey Embarks On Two-Game Roadtrip This Weekend

The Minutewomen head to Philadelphia to take on St. Joseph's on Friday at 3 p.m. and New Haven to take on Yale at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

AMHERST, Mass. - The No. 18 University of Massachusetts field hockey team will embark on a two-game roadtrip to face the No. 9 Saint Joseph's Hawks as well as the Yale Bulldogs, a non-conference opponent. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+, as well as on an international stream.

Last Time Out
The Minutewomen defeated the La Salle Explorers last Friday afternoon by a score of 4-0. Senior Jess Beech notched a penalty stroke goal, as well as assist on senior Bella Ianni's first goal of the season, which was credited as the game-winner. Ianni also registered an assist on junior Claire Danahy's second-half goal. 

Scouting the Hawks
No. 9 Saint Joseph's has been dominant this season, sitting at an 8-3 record and 3-0 record in conference play. The Hawks have scored 33 goals while only allowing nine on the season. Lily Santi leads Saint Joseph's in goals (nine), assists (five), and points (23). Manu Ghigliotti and Freke van Tilburg lead the team in shots with 31 and 29, respectively, while Santi has recorded 26. Goalkeeper Robin Bleekemolen has started in all eleven games for the Hawks, recording 27 saves so far this season with 72 shots faced.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Yale is currently 6-4 on the season, having gone 3-1 at home. Theodora Dillman leads the Bulldogs in goals (six) and points (13) this season, while Ellie Barlow leads the team in assists with 4. Barlow has also recorded three goals so far this season. Goalkeeper Luanna Summer has seen action in all 10 games played by the Bulldogs this year. Summer currently has 20 goals against and has recorded 42 saves with 112 shots faced.

van Herwijnen Tabbed Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week
Massachusetts Field Hockey's Myrte van Herwijnen was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week by the league on Monday afternoon. This award is the first in van Herwijnen's collegiate career. van Herwijnen played 45 minutes in the cage against A-10 rival La Salle, tallying four saves on the day with six shots faced. The Huizen, The Netherlands, native allowed no goals in the 4-0 victory.

Massachusetts returns home to face Virginia Commonwealth University in conference play at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 14 and No. 21 University at Albany at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 16. Then, the Minutewomen are back on the road to take on the Richmond Spiders on Friday, October 21.
