BOSTON – University of Massachusetts hockey will make its return to Fenway Park this season as the squad's January 7 matchup against Boston College will be a part of Frozen Fenway 2023, presented by Moderna and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the City of Boston, Hockey East Association and Fenway Sports Management (FSM) announced on Monday. The Minutemen will face the Eagles as the second game of a Hockey East men's doubleheader at 6 p.m., with Northeastern and UConn squaring off in the earlier matchup at 2:30 p.m.
"We are thrilled to bring college hockey back to Fenway Park for the fifth time, continuing a tradition established in 2010," said Brett Miller, Director, Special Events at Fenway Sports Management. "New England is home to some of the top hockey programs and most passionate fans, so this year's Frozen Fenway promises exciting contests and memorable experiences for all who attend."
"Fenway Park is an iconic venue that has already played host to memorable college hockey games, and our schools are excited to take the ice and compete for our fans and bragging rights," said Hockey East commissioner Steve Metcalf. "These games at the park will create once-in-a-lifetime memories for the players, students, alumni and all hockey fans. We are proud to be part of such a special event and appreciate the City of Boston and FSM for welcoming us back."
"It will be an honor to represent Hockey East at Frozen Fenway this winter," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "Beyond that it will be a spirited game against a rival opponent in a unique and historic venue. It will be a memorable game for everyone involved. I look forward to experiencing support from the countless UMass alumni in the Boston area at such a special event."
This season will mark the third time the Minutemen have been a part of Frozen Fenway, most recently facing Boston University on January 8, 2017 (a 5-3 loss) in Carvel's first season at the helm. UMass also played in Frozen Fenway 2012, a thriller against Vermont that saw the Minutemen triumph in overtime over the Catamounts, 3-2.
Tickets for the January 7 doubleheader are on sale starting September 22. Visit redsox.com/frozenfenway for more information and additional Frozen Fenway schedule updates.
