June 11, 2026 | Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has added 6-2, 198-pound left shot forward Jasper Kuhta to its incoming class for 2026-27. The Helsinki, Finland, native will join forwards Egor Barabanov, Gavin Cornforth, Max Curran, Maxim Massé and Melvin Novotny and defensemen Barrett Dexheimer and Mathieu Taillefer as the eighth newcomer on the squad this upcoming season. Kuhta, ranked No. 95 in the final NHL Central Scouting list for North American skaters, is expected to hear his name called in the draft later this month.
"Jasper is known for his two-way play and steady presence on the ice," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "He brings a combination of size, work ethic and defensive awareness, making him reliable in all situations. All these attributes will make Jasper a strong link within our group."
Kuhta played this past season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the Ottawa 67's, putting up 63 points on 32 goals and 31 assists during the regular season and seven points (2g, 5a) over nine postseason contests.
He has represented Finland in international play at both the U19 and U20 levels, a total of 34 games. At the 2026 World Junior Championships, he logged eight points on two goals and six assists over seven games.
