The Minutemen took nine of the top-10 spots at the Ken O'Brien Minuteman Invitational on Saturday.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts took nine of the top-10 spots, defeating WPI, 19-44 at the Ken O'Brien Minuteman Invitational on Saturday at the UMass cross country course. Surafel Mengist, led the field with a winning time of 19 minutes, 35.50 seconds in the 6K.
THE UMASS TOP-FIVE
The Minutemen will be idle until Friday, September 30, when the squad will travel to the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
THE UMASS TOP-FIVE
- It marked Mengist's first time as UMass lead finisher and first individual win of his career.
- Will Kenney was the No. 2 runner for the Minutemen for a second straight week, taking third overall (19:42.80)
- Benjamin Burgess followed in fourth (19:45.40), his second straight week in the top-five.
- Michael Norberg placed fifth overall (19:46.60) and fourth on the squad.
- Nicholas Valianti was sixth overall (19:54.80) and fifth for UMass.
