AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts track and field has added Remington Blair as an assistant coach, director of track & field and cross country David Jackson announced on Friday. Blair comes to UMass with seven years of Division I coaching experience, over 10 years of track and field competitive experience and has mentored four Atlantic 10 champions and one All-American.
Â
"We are excited to have Coach Blair join our team," said Jackson. "His success at the A-10 and national level will be a great benefit for our student athletes and coaching staff. We are excited to have continue to push our jumps group to the next level and to help us continue our tradition of student athlete success."
Â
"I am very excited and thankful to continue the success of UMass Track and Field," said Blair. "And I look forward to an exciting season with the incredibly talented jumps group I'll be coaching!"
Â
Blair spent the previous two years at La Salle where he guided Dennis Manyeah to a historic season in the high jump, finishing as a Second Team All-American. Manyeah broke the Atlantic 10 Championship high jump record on his way to conference gold outdoors and tied his school record with a jump of 2.16 meters at regionals to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Blair mentored Darian Alston to his second consecutive Atlantic 10 title in the triple jump during the indoor season.
Prior to arriving at La Salle, Blair spent two years in a similar position as an assistant coach at Northern Colorado in the Big Sky Conference. While with the Bears, he worked closely with the men's and women's jumps events.
Â
Before his time at Northern Colorado, a volunteer assistant coach at Fresno State from 2016 to 2017. A former track star during his collegiate days as a student-athlete at Fresno, Blair returned to his alma mater to coach the men's and women's sprints, hurdles and relays. He also spent three years coaching the track and field teams at San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, including one season as head coach.
Â
During his collegiate days, Blair was a two-year letterwinner in track at Fresno State. He was a two-time NCAA outdoor preliminary qualifier in the 400 meters and won a WAC title in the 4x400-meter relay.
Â
Blair holds multiple USA Track and Field certifications and earned his bachelor's in philosophy from Fresno State in May of 2012.
