AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 25 Massachusetts field hockey team will kickoff the 2022 season with a four-game home stand, beginning on Saturday, August 27, against No. 23 Maine at 1 p.m. The Minutewomen will then take on the No. 1 nationally-ranked Northwestern on Monday, August 29, at 1 p.m. The Black Bears and Wildcats will play against each other on Sunday, August 28. The contests on Saturday and Sunday will be streamed on ESPN+, and admission to all games at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex is free of charge.
Massachusetts Picked Second in A-10 Preseason Poll; Beech Named Preseason All-Conference
With 55 total points and one first place vote in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll, Massachusetts was picked to finish second in the upcoming season, behind only defending A-10 Champion Saint Joseph's (59 points; five first place votes). Senior midfielder Jess Beech was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
New Minutewomen Join UMass on the Pitch
The Minutewomen add 12 newcomers for the 2022 season, including two transfer students. Joining UMass are freshmen Gabrielle Benkenstein, Alexa Collins, Savanna Henderson, Mali Herberhold, Izzy Larimore, Paula Lorenzini, Emma Peck, Mia Smith, Myrte van Herwijnen and Alli Wood, and juniors Aisling Murray and Isolde Otten.
Leaders on the Field
Seniors Jess Beech, Emilie Keij and Josie Rossbach, and junior Claire Danahy will be 2022 UMass field hockey leaders on the pitch.
