Tennis Takes Down Fordham, 5-2, To Stay Perfect In Conference Play

The Minutewomen improve to 4-0 in A-10 competition.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis remain unblemished in the Atlantic 10 Conference after defeating Fordham University, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center. UMass improves to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in league play, while Fordham dropped to 8-4 overall, including 0-1 in the conference.
The Minutemen got off to a fast start in the match, grabbing wins at courts No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point. Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima partnered at No. 2, taking down Avery Aude and Lorraine Bergmann of Fordham, 6-2, before duo Mariya Krasakova and Dylan Cannon defeated Fordham's Carlota Casasampere Escoda and Rachelle Yang, 7-5, at No. 3. Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul and Fordham's Eleni Fasoula and Nicole Li were tied 5-5 when the match came to a halt.
Hack extended UMass' lead with a quick 6-2, 6-1 victory over Casasampere Escoda of Fordham at No. 3 singles, followed by Farima's 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 against Fordham's Aude. The Rams notched their first point of the day after Fasoula defeated Napadiy, 6-0, 6-4 at court No. 2. Jonglertrakul clinched the match for the Minutewomen, taking down Genevieve Quenville of Fordham, 6-0, 6-3 on court No. 5.
Cannon finished 6-1, 6-3 on court No. 6 over Fordham's Yang to add to Massachusetts point total, making it a 5-1 contest. Li tallied one more point for the Rams with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, win at court No. 4 over Krasakova, but the UMass came out on top, 5-2.
Massachusetts welcomes LIU on Saturday, April 9, for a 2 p.m., match, before hosting A-10 rival George Washington on Sunday, April 10, for an 11 a.m., contest. The match will be played either indoors at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center or outdoors at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts, as weather will be the deciding factor.
