Rhode Island Claims Series Finale Over Massachusetts Baseball, 3-0

Minutemen visit UConn on Tuesday, April 19, in a 3 p.m. contest.
KINGSTON, R.I. – University of Massachusetts baseball dropped the series rubber game, 3-0, to the University of Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.
Kevin Skagerlind had two of UMass' seven hits, while five other Minutemen recorded a hit.
Massachusetts and Rhode Island remained scoreless through the first three innings, before the Rams got on the board in the fourth, after scoring one on a sacrifice fly. The Minutemen had the tying run on third and the go-ahead run in both the top of the sixth and top of the seventh but were left on base.
Rhode Island was able to extend its lead in the seventh, earning a run on another sacrifice fly. The Rams tacked on one more run in the eighth, off an RBI double.
Zack Given (0-2) had the loss for UMass, allowing one run on four hits, walking two and tying a career-high five strikeouts, in six complete innings. Trystan Levesque (3-5) earned the win for URI, pitching six frames, giving up no runs, five hits, walking three and striking out three. Zach Fernandez registered his first save of the season for the Rams, pitching three innings, only walking one batter, and dealing four strikeouts.
