Fernandes, Lopina And Murray Earn UMass Student-Athlete of the Week Recognition

All three helped lead their squads with clutch postseason performances last week.

AMHERST, Mass. – A trio of student-athletes in men's basketball's Noah Fernandes and hockey's Josh Lopina and Matt Murray have been selected as the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday by the UMass Sports Luncheon committee.
 
Fernandes reached a new career-high in scoring for the second consecutive game as he finished with 29 points on 11-of-17 from the field to help UMass defeat George Washington 99-88 in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championship. The guard added seven assists and seven steals as the Minutemen scored the sixth-most points in a single game in the tournament's history. Last Friday in the quarterfinals, Fernandes scored 26 points to go along with four rebounds and four points in a three-point loss to second seeded Dayton. 
 
Lopina factored in all four goals in UMass' 4-2 win over No. 20 Providence in the Hockey East Quarterfinal round for a career high four-point night. The Minooka, Illinois native scored twice in the first period and later assisted tallies in the second and third.
 
Murray made a career high 45 saves to pick up the win over the Friars in the Hockey East Quarterfinals. He stopped 45 of 47 shots on net for a .957 save percentage and a 2.00 GAA for the week.
