Three Named UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. – Junior Sydney Taylor of women's basketball and seniors Lucas Honohan and Coston O'Brien of men's track & field were named the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive.
On a 3-0 week for the Minutewomen, Taylor averaged 18.7 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists per game and 1.7 steals per game. From the field, she shot 40.5 percent (17-of-42), including 48.0 percent (12-for-25) from behind the arc, and was 10-for-11 (.909) from the free throw line. On Wednesday at St. Bonaventure, the junior tallied 11 points on the night and eight boards, while coming away with a team-high four steals and had four assists. The Huntington Station, N.Y., native totaled a game best 27 points, shooting 8-of-17 (.471) from the field and made a career tying six three-pointers out of her 12 attempts (.500) against George Mason on Friday. She also registered five assists, three rebounds and one steal. Against Duquesne, Taylor had her 20th double figure contest after recording 18 points, making 5-of-5 (1.000) from the charity stripe, five of her 13 attempted field goals (.385), and 3-of-5 (.600) three-pointers. She added three rebounds to the day and one assist.
Honohan broke the UMass 400 meter dash record, previously set by Tom Toye 48.27 set in 1996, running 48.03 seconds to eighth at the Valentine Invitational last weekend.
O'Brien received the honor after breaking UMass' longest standing record, surpassing Dick Ward's mark of 61 feet, 9.5 inches in 1963 with the winning toss of 62 feet, 7.25 inches in weight throw at the Giegengack Invitational. He also took fourth in shot put with a mark of 49 feet, 3.75 inches.
