Ufko and Lebster both scored power-play goals for the Minutemen in the setback.

AMHERST, Mass. - – No. 11/10 University of Massachusetts hockey dropped a 7-2 contest to No. 14 Boston University on Friday night at the Mullins Center. The setback leaves the Minutemen at 5-4-1 on the year, 1-4-0 in Hockey East action, while the Terriers improve to 5-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in league play.

"It was a pretty ugly game all the way through," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "We're in a hole here for the first time in a long time and we're going to have to find a way as a group to pull out of it. We have another opportunity tomorrow, but I didn't think our compete was great tonight, our puck management wasn't great. We're struggling on the back end, we've got injuries on the back end and that's part of the problem, but we need to come together as a group and figure out a way to play better hockey."

BU put the first goal on the board, 5:39 into the contest as Ryan Greene picked off an errant UMass pass and skated in alone on Luke Pavicich for the score.

At the 1:18 mark of the second period, Wimer Skoog netted a lacrosse-style goal to push the Terriers' advantage to 2-0.

Quinn Hutson followed with two quick goals at 9:52 on the power play from Lane Hutson and Ryan Greene and then again at 12:50 into the second from Greene and Luke Tuch.

Just 10 seconds later, Greene netted the fifth of the night for BU from Quinn Hutson and Tuch to chase Pavicich from the net.

UMass took one of the goals back before the intermission as sophomore Ryan Ufko rifled a slap shot through traffic from the high slot on the power play with seniors Cal Kiefiuk and Reed Lebster picking up the assists at the 18:21 mark.

The Minutemen converted again on a five-minute major to start the third with Lebster netting his fourth of the season from sophomore Scott Morrow and Ufko at 3:21.

With under five minutes to play, UMass pulled netminder Cole Brady for an extra attacker and Matt Brown put BU's sixth of the night into an open net 15:39 into the final stanza.

Devin Kaplan finished off the scoring on a 5-on-3 for the Terriers at 19:24 from Green and Lane Hutson.

Boston University out-shot Massachusetts 45-23 on the night and went 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Minutemen were 2-for-3.

Drew Commesso finished with 21 saves, while Pavicich and Brady recorded 18 and 20 stops for UMass, respectively.

The two teams will square off again tomorrow night, November 12, at 7 p.m. in Boston at Agganis Arena.
