Eric Faith nets the lone goal of the night for the Minutemen.

BOSTON – No. 11/10 University of Massachusetts hockey dropped a 5-1 decision on the road at No. 14 Boston University on Saturday night at Agganis Arena. The setback leaves the Minutemen at 5-5-1 overall (1-5-0 HE), while the Terriers move to 6-3-0 (4-2-0 HE).

"I thought the team played fairly well tonight," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "BU's a good hockey team and I knew it was going to be tough trying to win here. I really liked the way the team came out. I thought our first period was actually pretty good, we created a fair number of chances, but I don't think we got in front of the goaltender enough to make his life difficult. I was proud of the team tonight. We played hard. I thought the game was closer than the score. We had some kids step up and play hard tonight. We needed that. We're really struggling with injuries. We've got three defensemen out right now and we played two nights in a row with five defensemen basically for the whole game. The kids sucked it up and the kids played hard. I was proud of their effort tonight."

The Terriers opened the scoring midway through the first period as Luke Tuch's initial shot off a feed was stopped by netminder Cole Brady, but Ryan Greene was there to punch home the rebound in the slot at the 9:18 mark.

Just before the intermission, BU doubled its lead with Jamie Armstrong cleaning up a loose puck in front from Devin Kaplan and Ty Gallagher 17:25 into the stanza.

Moments after a penalty to Ryan Sullivan expired in the second period, the Terriers struck again. Case McCarthy beat Brady with a one-timer from the right faceoff circle off a feed from Wilmer Skoog and Matt Brown at 12:23.

Senior Eric Faith put the Minutemen on the board 38 seconds into the third period, finishing off a tic-tac-toe setup from classmates Reed Lebster and Cal Kiefiuk into an open net.

However, BU pushed its lead back to three with a tally from Nick Zabaneh at 8:59 from Ethan Phillips and Jay O'Brien. O'Brien then capped the scoring 39 seconds later with a power-play goal set up by Brown and McCarthy.

The Terriers ended the contest with a 45-30 advantage in shots on goal and went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Minutemen were 0-for-2.

Brady made 32 saves for UMass before being relieved by junior Henry Graham, who stopped all eight shots he faced in the third. Drew Commesso made 29 saves on the evening for BU.

The Minutemen will next travel to New Hampshire for a 7 p.m. contest on Friday, November 18.
