No. 18 Massachusetts Field Hockey Edges Yale, 1-0

Senior Bella Ianni scored the lone goal of the game to lift the Minutewomen over the Bulldogs.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey team bested the Yale Bulldogs by a score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Johnson Field. The win puts the Minutewomen at a 10-3 record, while the Bulldogs sit at 6-6 on the season.
Yale opened up the first quarter strong, outshooting the Minutewomen 9-1. However, the Minutewomen's one shot of the quarter was the game-winning goal, scored by Bella Ianni at 0:54 in the first quarter. This goal, Ianni's second of the season, was assisted by Dempsey Campbell. The remainder of the game was scoreless, with Yale registering two more shots in the following three quarters (11 total, 3 on goal) while Massachusetts recorded 12 more shots (13 total, 5 on goal) on the day.
The Minutewomen also led Yale in corners (6-2). Yale goalkeeper Luanna Summer recorded 4 saves on the day, while Massachusetts' Myrte van Herwijnen registered 3 saves in the match.
Massachusetts returns to action this Friday, October 14, as they take on the VCU Rams at 2 p.m. at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.
