Women’s Soccer Topped By Fordham In Regular Season Finale, 1-0

Minutewomen prepare for the first round of Atlantic 10 Championships.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer team fell to Fordham at Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon. 1-0. The loss brings Massachusetts to a 5-8-5 overall record, including 4-4-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while Rams are now 5-11-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the league.
UMass and Fordham were even keeled in the first half, entering the second half scoreless. Late in the second, the Rams were awarded a corner kick. Fordham's Caroline Monahan kicked the ball inside the six-yard box, as Maura Murphy headed it into the net in the 88th minute of the contest.
Junior goalkeepers Bella Mendoza and Megan Olszewski each spent time in net, with Mendoza starting in the first half. Mendoza made two saves, while Olszewski had one in the final 45 minutes of play. The Minutewomen outshot the Rams, 11-9, including five shots on target to Fordham's four. UMass and Fordham recorded three corners apiece.
Massachusetts gears up for the Atlantic 10 Championship, with the first round beginning on Friday, Oct. 28 or Saturday, Oct. 29 at the on-campus locations of the top four teams in the final standings. The semifinals are set for Wednesday, Nov. 2 with the finals on Sunday, Nov. 6 at a location to be determined.
