Minutewomen end postseason play with Flyers 2-0 win.

DAYTON, Ohio – The No. 7-seeded University of Massachusetts women's soccer team fell, 2-0, to the No. 2-seed Dayton in the Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinals on Friday night at Baujan Field. The Minutewomen completed the season with a 5-9-5 overall record.

Five minutes into the contest, Dayton got on the board first, making it 1-0 quickly. The Flyers' Diana Benigno sailed the ball up the field just outside the 18-yard box, allowing Itala Gemelli to dribble it to the right of the six-yard box, before she sent it towards the net. Massachusetts had some great opportunities but could not find the back of the net.

In the 59th minute, Hegg kicked the ball into the six-yard box off the corner kick, while Alicia Donley booted it into the left of the cage, giving Dayton a 2-0 lead in the second half. UMass once again had some great scoring opportunities, but could not capitalize.

Junior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza saved four of six shots faced on the night. Sophomore forward Ashley Lamond recorded a game-high three shots, followed by graduate student forward Lauren Bonavita with two.

Dayton outshot Massachusetts, 15-10, but the Minutewomen kept the shots on goal close, with the Flyers edging out UMass 6-5 with shots on target.
