Men’s Cross Country Races To 13th At Coast-To-Coast Battle In Beantown

Lefever finishes as UMass’ lead runner for a second straight meet.
BOSTON – University of Massachusetts men's cross country placed 13th out of 20 schools, squaring off against some of the nation's best at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park.
For a second meet in a row, Zach Lefever led the way for the Minutemen, taking 37th in the field of 174 runners, clocking in at 25 minutes, 9 seconds. Josh Rahn, as UMass' No. 2, placed 80th as he completed the 8K course in 25 minutes, 58 seconds. Nicholas Valianti followed close behind in 91st with a time of 26 minutes, 7 seconds.
Surafel Mengist and Matthew George were 107th (26:29) and 108th (26:30), respectively, to complete UMass' top-five.
The Minutemen will be back in action on Saturday, October 9, when the squad will return to Franklin Park for the New England Championships.
