Setting the Scene
After 360 days between game action, University of Massachusetts baseball returns to the diamond facing Northeastern on Wednesday, March 3. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. from the Huskies' Friedman Diamond. It marks the first game for the Maroon and White since the team wrapped up a weekend series at No. 4 Georgia on March 8, 2020.

A solid mix of returners and newcomers compose the 2021 edition of the Minutemen as the squad begins its 138th season. Twenty-two members of the team are back from the abbreviated 2020 campaign, while thirteen players are in their first season in Amherst, including seven freshmen and six transfers. A complete roster is available here.

All-Time vs. Northeastern
Massachusetts meets the Huskies for the 91st time on Wednesday and with an even split of 45 all-time wins. These teams last met in 2018 with Northeastern pulling away late at Friedman Diamond in a 10-8 final score. UMass most recently knocked off the Huskies on April 19, 2017 in Beanpot action at Fenway Park, and last at Friedman Diamond on March 29, 2016.

Keeping it in the Family
The 2021 season marks the 55th straight campaign that Massachusetts baseball will have an alumnus of the Flagship campus as head coach. Fourth-year skipper Matt Reynolds is a double graduate (2005, '10G), and was preceded by fellow alumni Mike Stone '82 (1988-2017) and Dick Bergquist '57 (1967-87).

This is the second longest active streak across Division I baseball. Only BYU (62 consecutive seasons) has been led by an alum of its program for a longer period.

On Deck
The Minutemen head to Stony Brook for a weekend series on Saturday and Sunday, March 6-7. Each day will feature a 7/9-inning doubleheader beginning at noon.

Due to the ever-evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, game dates, times and opponents are subject to change. Any updates to the schedule will be announced on UMassAthletics.com as well as via the official UMass baseball social media accounts (@UMassBaseball).
