Minutewomen tally National Academic Squad honors for individual scholastic achievement

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) recognized 21 members of the 2020 University of Massachusetts field hockey program with National Academic Squad status, as announced by the organization on Thursday. The Division I National Academic Squad program's most recent list of honors represents student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher during the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year.

The 21 honorees tied Massachusetts for the eighth-most recipients across NCAA Division I and put the Minutewomen even with La Salle for more individual recognitions for an Atlantic 10 institution.

Izzy Acquaviva, Josephine Ang, Genevieve Becker, Jess Beech, Lucy Cooper, Emily Crawford, Claire Danahy, Megan Davies, Mus Defauwes, Emma Ewas, Katherine Furry, Jenna Garber, Steph Gottwals, Amelie Green, Sophie Johnson, Emilie Keij, Bailey McNamara, Georgie McTear, Josie Rossbach, Katie Samaranayake and Marlise van Tonder each received National Academic Squad honors for their Fall, 2020 scholastic success.

Three Division I academic awards remain to be announced — the NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction will be announced on March 25 and the NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Awards will be released on March 29. The NFHCA Division I National Scholar-Athlete will be announced on June 15, 2021.

The Minutewomen continue their spring season with a Sat., March 20 contest against Saint Joseph's at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex at 1 p.m.
