Minutewomen Down Crimson at Home

AMHERST, Mass. – Three Minutewomen scored in double figures to help the University of Massachusetts women's basketball team defeat Harvard 90-71, at the Mullins Center on Friday evening.
San Breen led the way wither her second straight double-double, notching 23 points and 12 rebounds. Ber'Nyah Mayo tallied 17 points, and 10 rebounds, while Sydney Taylor contributed 17 in the victory.
Harvard took an early 6-0 run, but the Minutewomen clawed their way back through the first quarter to take the 20-16 advantage into the second.
UMass extended their lead to 16 by the end of the first half, getting to the free throw line and capitalizing on their fast break opportunities. In total, the Minutewomen outscored the Blue Devils 21-5 on the fast break.
Harvard's offense surged through the second quarter, outscoring UMass 23-17, to head into the break with a 39-37 lead over the Minutewomen.
The third quarter remained close as well as UMass pitched a 24-14 performance, still heading into the fourth quarter down 54-57.
During the final 10 minutes of play the combination of Breens and Mayo took off as the Minutewomen increased their lead to 8 points with 1:30 to play. Mayo sealed the UMass victory with a pair of free-throws in the final :16
Standing at 2-0 in the season, UMass will host Iona on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
