October 23, 2021 | Men's Soccer
Marvyn Dorchin racked up 10 saves for his third shutout in the last four matches.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team earned its third shutout in the last four matches as they played to a 0-0 draw at Duquesne on Saturday evening. Marvyn Dorching picked up 10 saves for the Minutemen (8-3-4 Overall, 2-2-3 Atlantic 10) as they picked up a road point in the conference standings.
Dorchin was tested early by Duquesne in the fifth-minute on a Jaime Borjas shot following an attempt that hit the post moments earlier. UMass quickly went the other way as Yosuke Hanya linked up with Mike Willis on a through ball down the right side for a shot at the near post that was saved under a minute later.
Hanya got involved in another scoring opportunity in the 24th-minute as he found Alec Hughes with a cross to the far post for a header that was cleared off the line by a Duquesne defender. The UMass back line cleared their fair share of shots off the line as well with Logan Brown denying Maxi Hopfer in the 48th-minute. Graham Brenner helped preserve the shutout in the 103rd-minute as he turned away a shot in the second overtime period.
The Minutemen played the opening 10 minutes of the overtime on the front foot, outshooting the Dukes 8-1 during the 10-minute span. Hanya nearly came away with the game-winning goal in the 93rd-minute after Ryan Kim found him in front of goal for a header that was saved away by Duquesne's Domenic Nascimben.
Duquesne outshot UMass 5-0 in the second overtime period, including a shot by Ryan Landry in the 108th-minute that was denied by Dorchin for his 10th and final save of the evening. The Dukes finished with a 29-19 shot advantage with 11 shots on goal to UMass' five.
