Videtto records two hits including first career triple in Sunday’s setback
ATHENS, Ga. – University of Massachusetts baseball was defeated by No. 4 Georgia, 6-0, on Sunday at Foley Field. The Minutemen return to action on Fri., March 13 as the squad opens a three-game set at Wofford at 6 p.m.
Freshman Jordan Erbe and redshirt junior Anthony Videtto each went 2-for-4 at the plate and freshman leadoff hitter Ryan Coleman had a hit plus two walks.
Massachusetts loaded the bases in its first time at bat but could not push any runs across. Coleman led off the game with a single into right, then stole second base and found senior Nolan Kessinger aboard at first with a walk. Erbe chopped a two-out single up the middle to the outfield grass to load the bases, but the Bulldogs forced a ground out that ended the threat.
Videtto clubbed his first career triple in the top of the fourth, a 1-0 offering to the gap in right center field. But Georgia retired the next three Minutemen in order and exited the inning.
The Bulldogs scored one run apiece in the first, third and fourth innings and tacked on three more in their half of the sixth to bring the game to its final score. Two-hole hitter Cam Shepherd was 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.
Georgia's Logan Moody (1-0) was the winner on the mound with a five-inning start that saw Moody strike out four and allow three hits plus a pair of walks. For the Minutemen, sophomore Jack Steele (0-2) took the loss in a 4.2-inning performance in which he fanned one and was responsible for three runs on seven hits and three walks.
