East II Collects Second A-10 Rookie Of The Week Honor

East is the first Minuteman since 2005-06 to earn two Rookie of the Week nods
AMHERST, Mass. – After averaging 22 points and 5.5 assists in two games last week, freshman Sean East II has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
It marks the first time since the 2003-04 season that Massachusetts has collected four conference rookie of the week nods in the same season, and makes East II the first Minuteman since Chris Lowe in 2005-06 to earn the honor twice in a season.
East II dropped a season-high 26 points on 11-of-21 shooting (3-of-5 from three) to go along with three offensive rebounds and a game-high six assists at Akron on Monday night before following that up with a 7-of-22 showing for 18 points with five dimes and four steals in his Atlantic 10 debut at Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon.
On the season, East II is fourth on the team averaging 12.1 points per game along with a team high 5.1 assists. He is fifth in the country among freshmen in assists per game, while his 72 total assists are tied for 64th in the NCAA (sixth among rookies).
East II and the Minutemen return to the Mullins Center on Wednesday for their Atlantic 10 home opener against La Salle. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised live on NESN.
