Marcus Banks Jr. Named MAC Player Of The Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- For the second time this season, graduate student guard Marcus Banks Jr., has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Banks Jr. had back-to-back impressive performances this past week, including a career-best 37-point performance in a win against Central Michigan (Feb. 3), as well as 21 points in a triple overtime thriller at Coastal Carolina (Feb. 7).
For the week the Hampton, Virginia native averaged 29 points per game, shot 54.1% from the field, including 14-25 from three (.560), and also averaged 3.5 steals per game. In the win over the Chippewas, Banks Jr. etched his name in the Massachusetts records book by making a program-best 10 three pointers. Banks Jr. and Central Michigan's Logan McIntire combined for 22 three's, marking the most combined three's made by two players (teammates or opponents) in any NBA, WNBA, or Division I men's or women's game all-time (via @OptaSTATS). Banks Jr., had the buzzer beater from just over half court to force a third overtime at Coastal Carolina. He was also named the MAC Player of the Week on Dec. 15.
Banks Jr. and the Minutemen return to MAC play against Akron at 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
