Harris Earns Gold, Witt Matches School Record On Day One At New England Championships

Jada Harris claimed the top spot in high jump, while Lindsay Witt ran a PR in 60 meter dash to tie the program’s all-time best.
ROXBURY, Mass. – Senior Jada Harris won gold in high jump and classmate Lindsay Witt tied the program 60 meter dash record to highlight day one of the New England Championships for University of Massachusetts women's track and Field. Through seven scored events, the Minutewomen sit fourth in the team standings with 29.5 points, while Dartmouth leads the field with a score of 53.50.

Harris cleared 5 feet, 9.75 for her first indoor New England title of her career, while UMass picked up additional points in high jump with Samantha Thompson landing sixth at 5 feet, 7.25 inches.

Harris also scored in long jump, leaping 18 feet, 9.25 inches for fifth and senior Danielle Reicherts added a point in eight at 18 feet 7 inches.

Senior Sydney Flanagan claimed sixth in pole vault at 11 feet, 7.75 inches and junior Danielle Notarfrancesco rounded out the field event scorers for the Minutewomen on day one as she was eighth in weight throw with a mark of 54 feet, .5 inches.

Freshman Lily Robinson ran 17:32.01 to sixth in the 5K, while the distance medley relay team of freshman Sarah Conant, junior Kaela Hardy, freshman Rebekah James and junior Caroline Clark combined for a sixth-place time of 12 minutes, 7.53 seconds.

Junior Emma Jones added two points for the Minutewomen in pentathlon, taking seventh with a score of 3,073.

Harris posted the top time in the 60 meter hurdles preliminaries at 8.56 seconds to advance to Saturday's semifinal. Witt led a trio of UMass sprinters who qualified out of the 60 meter preliminaries as she tied the program record with her PR of 7.74 seconds. Reicherts ran 7.77 seconds for a PR that now ranks third in school history and junior Abby Collins moved on to semifinals at 7.89 seconds. Â

Witt and Collins also qualified for finals in 400m (57.81, 6th) and 200m (25.62, 8th), respectively.

Senior Emilie Cowan and junior Bryanna Rivers advanced in 500 meter dash. Cowan was third in preliminaries (1:15.81) and Rivers placed 12th (1:18.21).

Sophomore Alexina Hurley qualified for the 1,000 meter run final, running 2 minutes, 58.81 seconds to fourth in preliminaries.

The Minutewomen will resume action at New England's tomorrow, February 1, at 10 a.m.
