Massachusetts Caps Dominant Weekend With Second Shutout

Minutewomen down Binghamton for back-to-back home victories
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis closed out its back-to-back home match weekend with a 7-0 victory over Binghamton at the Bay Road Tennis Club on Sunday afternoon. The victory improved Massachusetts to 2-1 on the season while Binghamton fell to 0-4.
Massachusetts raced through doubles with a sweep of Binghamton while only dropping five total games.
Jasmin Tripathy and Sarah Mezini were the first to better their Bearcats opposition with a 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over Julia Gumieniak and Maya Haykal.
Shortly thereafter, Massachusetts made it a clean sweep of all three doubles matches. Ashley Avery and Jovana Bogicevic won 6-2 at No. 2 against Regina Furer and Jamie Lau before Anna Napadiy and Martina Bocchi mirrored their teammates on the No. 1 court with a 6-2 victory over Samara Eisenberg and Ashley Granieri.
The Minutewomen carried their dominance into singles and won each match over the Bearcats.
Bogicevic was the first Minutewoman to complete her singles play, working quickly for a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Granieri at No. 3. Bocchi, playing at No. 2, used momentum from a tie-break win in her first set and pushed through for a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Furer.
Napadiy contended with Eisenberg on the No. 1 court and secured the decisive fourth team point following a 7-5, 6-3 battle. It was Napadiy's second consecutive match playing in the No. 1 singles spot, and her second victory as well.
Avery, Tripathy and Mezini finished off the shutout for the Minutewomen at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
After Avery dropped her first set to Lau, the Wellesley, Massachusetts, native rattled off back-to-back dominant sets for the 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 comeback. Tripathy eased by Lara Kaplan 6-1, 6-2Â before she joined her teammates in cheering on Mezini in the final stages of Mezini's 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Gumieniak.
