Tennis Shuts Down La Salle In Atlantic 10 Tournament First Round

Minutewomen win doubles, take No. 4-6 singles for 18th win of the year
ORLANDO, Fla. - No. 3 seeded University of Massachusetts tennis swept No. 14 La Salle, 4-0 in the Atlantic 10 Championship First Round at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon. The victory moved Massachusetts into the quarterfinal round, which will occur on Thurs., April 25. The Minutewomen will face No. 6 Richmond (8-9 overall) at 6 p.m.
Massachusetts improved to 18-4 with the win. La Salle ended its season with a 1-15 mark following the loss.
The Minutewomen quickly worked through doubles for the first point of the day as the Minutewomen won on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts.
Freshman Jodie Lawrence-Taylor and sophomore Anna Napadiy combined for a 6-0 shutout of Brittany Poje and Aleks Nikolic at No. 2. Shortly thereafter, senior Ruth Crawford and junior Ashley Avery totaled a 6-1 triumph over Jazmin Walle and Maansi Malhotra on the No. 3 court.
Napadiy (No. 4), Martina Bocchi (No. 5) and Jovana Bogicevic (No. 6) provided Massachusetts with its three singles victories and secured the team its sixth shutout victory of the year, and third against an Atlantic 10 foe.
Napadiy and Bogicevic posted perfect matches with 6-0, 6-0 margins over Nikolic and Malhotra, respectively. Bocchi nearly matched Napadiy and Bogicevic's feats with a 6-1, 6-0 score against Walle.
