Tennis Downed By Richmond In Atlantic 10 Tournament

Minutewomen end season with 18-5 overall record
ORLANDO, Fla. - University of Massachusetts tennis concluded its 2019 season with a 4-3 loss to No. 6 seed Richmond in the Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinal Round at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday evening. With the loss, Massachusetts ends its season with an 18-5 overall record.
The Minutewomen dropped doubles to Richmond as the Spiders took the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Ruth Crawford and Ashley Avery fell at No. 3 by a 6-3 score to Lyndell Giffenig and Adrienne Haynes before Emily Dunbar and Kiana Marshall worked by Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi 6-4.
Massachusetts rallied back and went in front following conclusion of the opening two singles matches as Kovacevic and Jodie Lawrence-Taylor earned the Minutewomen victories.
Lawrence-Taylor was the first to finish as she polished off a 6-3, 6-1 win over Marshall at No. 2 singles. Kovacevic followed with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Dunbar at No. 1.
Helene Heiberg downed Bocchi at No. 5 singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 and evened the score at 2-all; however, Jovana Bogicevic pushed Massachusetts back in front with her 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 comeback victory over Ana Ramirez in the No. 6 match.
The Spiders secured the match with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Lea Owens took a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 match from Anna Napadiy at No. 4 singles before Zlaeteva needed a third set to get the best of Crawford 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 to move Richmond into the semifinal round.
