Collins And Deveau Complete Day One Of Virginia Challenge

Collins fifth in decathlon, Deveau sixth in heptathlon heading into Saturday.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Massachusetts track and field seniors Jonathan Collins and Bridget Deveau were both in action on Friday at the Virginia Challenge, hosted by the University of Virginia. Through five events, Collins sits fifth in decathlon with a score of 3,761, 256 points off the lead, while Deveau is 410 points shy of first in heptathlon with her score of 2,986.
 
Collins opened the day by taking fourth in 100 meter dash, with a time of 11.11 seconds for 836 points. He was fifth in long jump at 23 feet, 1.25 inches to college 823 points, eighth in shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 3.5 inches (623 points) and seventh in high jump at 6 feet, 1.25 inches (679 points). He closed out day one by running 50.31 seconds to fourth in 400 meter dash for 800 points.
 
Deveau was 10th in 100 meter hurdles to begin the heptathlon competition with a time of 14.69 for 883 points and claimed ninth in high jump at 5 feet, 2.5 inches for 724 points. She threw 38 feet, 6.25 inches in shot put to place fifth for 644 points and was eighth in 200 meter dash at 26.72 seconds for 735 points.

Action resumes tomorrow, April 20, with Decathlon 110 meter hurdles at 10:15 a.m.
