Minutewomen Claim Third Consecutive Sweep

Tennis downs Rhode Island, 4-0 at the Mullins Center Courts
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts tennis won its sixth consecutive match with a 4-0 shutout of Rhode Island at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. The team improved to 16-4 overall and 4-1 in the Atlantic 10 with the victory. It also went as Massachusetts' 14th win in the last 16 matches and bumped the squad's record to 8-1 at home.
Rhode Island fell to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the Atlantic 10 with the loss.
The sides inverted match order and played singles first due to an encroaching weather system in Western Massachusetts, during which UMass took wins at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 for the match victory. Singles play was halted following Massachusetts' fourth victory and doubles play was not undertaken.
Jovana Bogicevic won at No. 6 with a near-perfect 6-0, 6-1 match over Sydney Chratian while Martina Bocchi clipped Paulina Loredo at No. 5 singles 7-5, 6-1. Anna Napadiy added a 6-4, 6-1 triumph versus Halah Davis 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot while Jodie Lawrence-Taylor downed bested Tiara Higuchi 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.
The Minutewomen wrap up the regular season against Fordham (10-9 overall, 3-2 Atlantic 10) on Fri., April 19 with a 2 p.m. match. The team will celebrate Senior Day for its lone senior, Ruth Crawford, prior to the match.
