Kopec Takes Second At Northeast Combined Events Challenge

The sophomore improved her ranking to fourth in the UMass record book in Heptathlon.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field sophomore Kira Kopec finished second in heptathlon at the Northeast Combined Events Challenge on Friday after a strong showing in the final three events on day two.
Kopec posted a score of 4,757, moving up to fourth on UMass' all-time list. She took fourth in long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 8.25 inches for 668 points and followed up by placing third in javelin at 104 feet, 5 inches for 511 points. Kopec then closed out the meet by winning the 800 meter run in 2 minutes, 26.71 seconds for 735 points.
Emma Jones finished fifth in the scoring with 4,162 points. She was fourth in javelin with a mark of 93 feet, 11 inches for 451 points, seventh in long jump (16 feet, 8.75 inches, 587 points) and 14th in 800 meter run (2 minutes, 45.56 seconds, 533 points).
Tyler Orlandella took 11th in the scoring with 3,805 points. She was eighth in long jump (16 feet, 6 inches) for 567 points, 10th in javelin (74 feet, 7 inches, 340 points) and 12th in 800 meter run at 2 minutes, 40.96 seconds for 562 points.
For the Minutemen, freshman Matthew Tarantino was the lone individual to complete the decathlon, landing 11th for 5,456 points.
