Minutewomen post fifth consecutive triumph

HANOVER, N.H. - University of Massachusetts tennis stretched its win streak to five consecutive matches with a 4-3 triumph at Dartmouth College on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen secured the doubles point and took the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches as UMass improved to 7-2 overall. The Big Green dropped to 3-8 with the loss.

"The doubles (matches) set the tone for us," head coach Juancarlos Nunez said. "We continued to play offensive-minded by being in the right positions and setting each other up to win at the net. Our energy and fight carried us in the singles. We had to dig deep and come through in the key moments under pressure. Our hard work on the practice courts prepared us to get the job done today against a tough and well-coached Dartmouth team."

Massachusetts continued its strong doubles play with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi downed Lyn and Conard, 6-2, while Jodie Lawrence-Taylor and Anna Napadiy bested Peng and Paripovic, 6-2. Ruth Crawford and Ashley Avery nearly made it a doubles sweep; however, McCann and Chuang snuck away with a 7-5 match.

The sides exchanged victories in singles before Kovacevic sealed the team's seventh win of the year at No. 1.

Crawford was the first to wrap up a win as she worked methodically through a 6-1, 6-3 match against Conard and extended the team's lead to 2-0 in the process.

Guan downed Bocchi 6-2, 6-2 next as Dartmouth closed within one match, but Lawrence-Taylor pushed the advantage back to two with her 6-3, 6-4 victory over Paripovic at No. 2 singles.

After Peng rallied Dartmouth back within one match of tying, Kovacevic secured the win with a three-set battle over Lyn 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. The squads played out the remaining match with McCann needing the tie-breaker to down Jasmin Tripathy 6-0, 5-7, 7-6 (4).
