Holy Cross Takes Midweek Tilt From Minutemen

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts baseball was defeated by Holy Cross, 11-2, on Tuesday evening at the New England Baseball Complex.
Redshirt sophomore Anthony Videtto was 3-for-4 with a walk out of the cleanup spot and Videtto along with senior Alec Norton each contributed doubles in the loss.
Holy Cross jumped out in front with two runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding three more in its half of the third. The Crusaders would stretch their lead to 11 with a six-spot in the last of the sixth inning.
UMass posted its two runs on the night in the top of the seventh as a result of two bases-loaded walks. Shapiro battled back from a 1-2 count to work a free pass and bring junior Nolan Kessinger 90 feet home before junior Eddy Hart plated freshman Michael Rounds as a result of a walk following a pitching change.
The win on the mound was credited to Holy Cross' Noah Luckenbaugh (1-0) and the loss went to UMass freshman Daniel Livnat (0-2). Fellow freshman Jack Pawloski relieved Livnat and worked 2.2 innings of relief, surrendering just one hit and recording four strikeouts.
Several Minutemen extended their respective reached base streaks, including redshirt freshman Collin Shapiro (13), Hart (12), Lever (12) and Videtto (9).
UMass begins Atlantic 10 Conference play on Fri., March 22, opening a three-game series at VCU in Richmond, Virginia.
