Springfield College graduate to assist Director of Sports Performance Matt Shadeed
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Athletics and Director of Sports Performance Matt Shadeed welcomed the addition of Joel Reinhardt to the UMass football staff as an assistant sports performance coach on Friday. Reinhardt will primarily work with Shadeed in the development of football student-athletes.
"The opportunity to join Coach (Walt) Bell and Coach Shadeed was something I could not pass up," Reinhardt said. "Being around energetic and driven coaches every day makes me excited to be here and get to work each day."
Reinhardt joins UMass football following a tenure as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
"We are so excited to have Joel Reinhardt on-board as an assistant sports performance coach for football here at UMass," Shadeed said. "The knowledge and technical skillset he possesses is second-to-none for a coach with his experience. He is passionate about serving our football student-athletes and will instantly add tremendous value to our program."
While at Nicholls State University, Reinhardt helped with the design and implementation of a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for the football program. Reinhardt's involvement with the Nicholls State football program also included the design and implementation of all agility work for the team's off-season development program.
Additionally, Reinhardt designed and implemented strength and conditioning regiments for the Nicholls State women's track and field, women's soccer, softball, and men's and women's tennis programs. He also organized and analyzed Playertek GPS data for the women's soccer team and planned and implemented an education board for student-athletes, as well as staff development meetings and education.
Reinhardt arrived at Nicholls State University following an internship position with the University of Minnesota football program. While working with the Gophers, Reinhardt assisted with the team's summer workout regiment. It marked his second tenure with Minnesota following an undergraduate internship in 2014.
Reinhardt is familiar with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a graduate of nearby Springfield College, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Strength and Conditioning in 2017. While studying at Springfield College, Reinhardt worked as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. Olaf College (Northfield, Minn.) in Kinesiology and Exercise Science in 2015.
Reinhardt's strength and conditioning expertise also includes internship tenures with Total Hockey Minnesota (2013), Springfield College Athletics (2015), the UConn Athletic Department (2016) and Western Michigan football (2016).
