Cowan Shatters 200m Record At Valentine Invitational

The senior ran the fastest 200 meter time, indoor or outdoor, in program history.
BOSTON – University of Massachusetts women's track and field senior Emile Cowan shattered the program's 200 meter record at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center. Not only did Cowan break the indoor 200 record, but her time also bested Pam Hughes' outdoor mark (24.38) from 1986.

Cowan ran a blistering 24.27 seconds to fourth in the 200 meter dash, surpassing Lindsay Witt's mark of 24.54 set last season. In the 400 meter dash, Cowan placed third in 54.06 seconds.

Also scoring a top-eight finish, junior Samantha Thompson claimed second in high jump, clearing 5 feet, 7 inches.

The rest of the Minutewomen squad will be back in action tomorrow, February 9, at the URI Coaches Tribute meet in Kingston, Rhode Island.
