Tennis Wins Fourth Straight, Downs LIU Brooklyn 6-1

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts tennis downed LIU Brooklyn, 6-2 at the Bay Road Tennis Center on Saturday for the team's fourth win in a row. Massachusetts improved to 6-2 with the victory and remained undefeated at home, 3-0. LIU Brooklyn fell to 4-4 with the loss.

Massachusetts edged LIU Brooklyn in doubles for a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Jodie Lawrence-Taylor and Anna Napadiy quickly ousted Jessica Brzozowska and Jennifer Gogova 6-0 in the No. 2 spot before the Maroon and White worked for wins at No. 1 and No. 3 for the doubles sweep. Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi needed the tiebreaker at No. 1 for a 7-5 outcome over Anna Grigoryan and Ana Leonte while Ruth Crawford and Ashley Avery dropped Malin Leysen and Sasha Bollweg 6-4 at No. 3.

Massachusetts ran through the No. 1-4 singles matches and secured the team victory as a result.

Crawford was the first to complete her victory, doing so by a 6-0, 6-3 margin over Bollweg at No. 3. Bocchi followed shortly after with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Leysen at No. 4. Lawrence-Taylor then sealed the crucial fourth team point at No. 2 singles with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Brzozowska. Kovacevic added to the team lead and pushed UMass ahead, 5-0 as she battled past Grigoryan on the No. 1 court 6-4, 6-4.

Napadiy and Jasmin Tripathy played at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Napadiy fell to Leonte while Tripathy went back and forth with Clemence Krug before Tripathy secured a 6-2, 7-5 outcome.

The Minutewomen continue their spring season at Dartmouth (3-7 overall) on March 2 with a 1 p.m. match.
