Collins Repeats As Heptathlon Champ On Day Two Of A-10’s

The senior collected his second career gold medal to help the Minutemen finish sixth in the team scoring.
FAIRFAX, Va. – University of Massachusetts men's track and field senior Jonathan Collins repeated as heptathlon champion at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Sunday at George Mason University Field House. His gold, UMass' second of the weekend, helped the Minutemen finish sixth in the 10-team field with 75 points. George Mason won the team title with 173 points.
Collins finished with 5,137 points for the top spot in the heptathlon standings, aided by a first-place showing in pole vault at 14 feet, 11 inches for 775 points. He also collected 775 points in 60 meter hurdles (8.87) and 610 points in the 1,000 meter run (3:05.68) on day two.
The Minutemen scored two in triple jump with senior Nathan Adeyemi taking fourth at 46 feet, 11.50 inches and Samuel Darkwa, Jr. landing in sixth with a mark of 43 feet, 11.75 inches.
On the track, junior Michael Cuthbert was fourth in 200 meter dash, finishing in 22.07 seconds, while Jordan Howard took seventh in 22.32 seconds. Howard also placed fifth in 60 meter dash at 6.99 seconds.
Senior Brian Gendron placed seventh in the 1,000 meter run, crossing the finish in 2 minutes, 30.56 seconds. Senior Zachary Frahlich was eighth in the mile run at 4 minutes, 20.95 seconds.
Capping UMass' individual scorers on the track, senior Michael Famiglietti placed seventh in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8 minutes, 36.70 seconds.
The Minutemen's 4x800 meter relay team of senior Kyle Guzman, Gendron, junior Nicholas Santos and Frahlich combined to run 7 minutes, 46.44 seconds to take fifth. The 4x400 meter relay squad of Howard, junior Kevin Shannon, sophomore Colin Stoddard and Cuthbert placed seventh in 3 minutes, 23.65 seconds.
