Deveau Repeats As Atlantic 10 Pentathlon Champion

The senior defends her 2018 title and breaks her own school record while Kopec earns bronze.
FAIRFAX, Va. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field senior Bridget Deveau defended her 2018 Atlantic 10 pentathlon title by breaking her own school record and led a trio of UMass scorers in the event to highlight day one of the Atlantic 10 Championships at George Mason University Field House. The Minutewomen are currently fourth in the team standings with 25 points, while George Mason leads the field with 49.50 points.
Deveau scored 3,869 points to take gold in pentathlon, while sophomore Kira Kopec earned bronze with 3,495 points and sophomore Emma Jones collected seventh with 3,348 points. Opening the day's action, Deveau ran 8.96 seconds to first in 60 meter hurdles, picking up 918 points. She tied for second in high jump at 5 feet, 1.25 inches for 689 points, was second in shot put with a mark of 39 feet, 11.5 inches for 673 points and was second in long jump at 18 feet, 1 inch for 703 points. The Fall River, Nova Scotia native finished off with a dominating performance in 800 meter run, claiming first in 2 minutes, 15.47 seconds for 886 points.
Sophomore Danielle Notarfrancesco narrowly missed a spot on the podium in weight throw with a toss of 51 feet, 9 inches to place fourth.
Senior Kayla Rorke was seventh in pole fault, clearing 10 feet, 11.75 inches and junior Danielle Reicherts captured eighth in long jump at 18 feet, 4.25 inches.
On the track, UMass sent six runners into Sunday's finals. Junior Jada Harris breezed into the 60 meter hurdles final, breaking her own school record and taking first in preliminaries at 8.47 seconds. Senior Emilie Cowan also claimed the top spot in the 500 meter preliminaries at 1 minute, 13.80 seconds.
Two Minutewomen moved on in 1,000 meter run. Sophomore Colette O'Leary was third in preliminaries at 2 minutes, 56.94 seconds and freshman Alexina Hurley placed fifth at 2 minutes, 55.42 seconds.
Sophomore Bryanna Rivers and junior Lindsay Witt rounded out the UMass qualifiers on day one, both taking fifth in their respective preliminaries. Rivers ran 2 minutes, 14.2 seconds in the 800 meter run and Witt clocked in at 25.03 seconds in 200 meter dash.
