Minutewomen win all nine matches against the Bobcats
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts tennis returned from its five-match road streak with a 7-0 sweep of Quinnipiac at the Bay Road Tennis Center on Saturday as the Maroon and White won all nine individual matches over the Bobcats and did not drop a set on the day.
The win improved Massachusetts to 5-2 overall while Quinnipiac fell to 3-5 with the loss.
Massachusetts only gave up one game across its three doubles victories as the Minutewomen took a 1-0 lead into the singles slate.
Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi wrapped up a 6-0 victory over Dominique Vasile and Payton Bradley shortly before Ruth Crawford and Ashley Avery matched the shutout with one of their own over Jennifer Lu and Stephanie Yanosov. Jodie Lawrence-Taylor and Anna Napadiy wrapped up the doubles action with a 6-1 triumph over Kamilla Nella and Layla Rodriguez.
The Minutewomen marched through singles and capped the afternoon with six more victories.
Kovacevic stepped onto the No. 1 court and posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Vasile as the Maroon and White doubled their advantage while Crawford worked through a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Nella at No. 3 for the 3-0 margin. Bocchi then sealed the team victory with her 6-3, 6-2 win over Rodriguez at No. 4.
With the match outcome sealed, the Minutewomen wrapped up three more victories, one each for Lawrence-Taylor (No. 2), Napadiy (No. 5) and Tripathy (No. 6).
Lawrence-Taylor won over Lu, 6-0, 6-3 before Napadiy downed Proyfon Lohaphaisan 6-4, 6-0. Tripathy capped the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Nash.
The Minutewomen continue their homestand with a Sun., Feb. 24 match against LIU Brooklyn at the Bay Road Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
