Minutewomen Complete Dominant Weekend With Win At Marist

UMass tennis takes second consecutive match by 6-1 margin
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - University of Massachusetts tennis capped a five-match road streak with a pair of strong weekend performances, including a 6-1 victory over Marist College at the Cross Court Tennis Facility in Wappingers Falls, New York, on Sunday afternoon. Massachusetts took all three at doubles and five of the six singles matches from the Red Foxes as the Minutewomen improved to 4-2 overall on the year. Marist dropped to 2-5 with the loss.
"It was great to see all eight step up and perform at different positions throughout the lineup," head coach Juancarlos Nunez said. "Our depth came through for us this weekend and we're excited to keep building on the work we've been putting in."
The Minutewomen worked through doubles play quickly with their wins in all three matches. Jodie Lawrence-Taylor and Anna Napadiy swept Sophia Moeller and Jada Tijani for a 6-0 win at No. 2 before Ashley Avery and Ruth Crawford downed Chloe Lant and Sophia Chavarria 6-3. Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi finished off the doubles sweep with a 6-2 triumph over Julia Gabay and Sam Galu.
Jasmin Tripathy stepped into a roll at No. 5 singles against the Red Foxes and produced the quickest outcome with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Chavarria. Lawrence-Taylor finished off her perfect day with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Gabay at No. 1 as Massachusetts pushed ahead, 3-0. Bocchi sealed the team victory with a 6-3, 6-1 margin over Price at No. 2.
Bogicevic defeated Lawt 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles before Moeller ended the team's perfect day with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Napadiy at No. 3. Avery capped the afternoon with a 6-2, 7-6 triumph at No. 6.
After nearly a two-week break, Massachusetts returns to the courts against Quinnipiac on Sat., Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.
