Women’s Track & Field Captures Second At Alden Invitational

Minutewomen win four events, Collins and Schissel set new all-time marks in 60m
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field collected four individual event wins to help the squad take second at the Alden Invitational on Saturday. The Minutewomen scored 140.16 points, trailing only host Brown (161 points) in the seven-team field.
Jada Harris took the top spot in 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.73 seconds and cleared 5 feet, 5.75 inches in high jump to capture first in that event, as well. She also collected third in long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 0.25 inches.
Kira Kopec was the runner-up to Harris in 60 meter hurdles (9.15) and picked up points in long jump, as well, in seventh with a mark of 17 feet, 3.25 inches. Danielle Reicherts was fourth in long jump (17'9.5") and UMass had three additional scorers in high jump: Patricia Douglas (third, 5'1.75"), Tyler Orlandella (seventh, 4'11.75") and Madison Witt (eighth, 4'9.75").
Two Minutewomen set new top-five all-time marks in the 60 meter dash as Abby Collins improved to third all-time on the UMass list with her personal best of 7.82, which landed her sixth in the meet. Caroline Schissel ran 7.87 seconds to take eighth in the final after clocking in at 7.85 seconds in the prelims, good for fifth in program history.
UMass scored three in 300 meter dash with Lindsay Witt placing fourth (41.41) followed by Jordan Lamarre in sixth (42.57) and Grace Poku in seventh (42.83).
Three additional Minutewomen provided points on the track as Sydney Clary was second in the mile (5:37.75), Alexsandra Bettencourt collected fifth in 1,000 meter run (3:15.40) and Nicolet Chapman placed sixth in 3,000m dash (11:48.08).
Danielle Notarfrancesco was victorious in shot put with a mark of 44 feet, 12.75 inches and led a trio of UMass scorers in weight throw, taking fourth (50'6.75") followed by Kelly Alves (fifth, 49'2.25") and Voski Armenakyan (seventh, 47'4.5"). Lauren LaDere landed in the scoring in shot put, as well, placing eighth with a toss of 41 feet, 8.5 inches for a new personal best.
Audrey Tarbox won pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 8 inches and Kristin Kolarik and Sophia Casiano tied for second at 10 feet, 2 inches.
UMass also picked up points in triple jump with Ivana Nyemeck (38'2.75") and Ashley Arroyo (35'11.25") capturing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Several Minutewomen were in action at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday, as well. Emilie Cowan took fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 14.72 seconds and Bryanna Rivers followed in seventh at 2 minutes, 17.72 seconds. Alexina Hurley was the runner up in 1000m at 2 minutes, 55.72 seconds and the 4x400 meter relay team of Kaela Hardy, Cowan, Rivers and Ariel Christie took fifth of 20 squads in 3 minutes, 54.27 seconds.
The Minutewomen will be idle until January 10 and 11 when the squad will travel to Harvard for the Beantown Multi and the Beantown Challenge.
