Minutemen Sweep Four Events On Way To 191-101 Win Over NJIT

The Minutemen picked up sweeps of the top-three spots in the 200 Medley Relay, 100 Back, 50 Free and 500 Free.

AMHERST, Mass. The University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team picked up four event sweeps while winning 12 on their way to a 191-101 win over NJIT in the home opener on Saturday morning at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool. The Minutemen opened up the day with their first sweep, claiming the top-three finishes in the 200 Medley Relay.
 
Seamus Trzewik-Quinn led a UMass sweep in the 100 Back, clocking in a top time of 51.65 to win while Michael Tartakovsky and Sanjay Sekar followed in second and third respectively. Ryan Pedrick paced a Minuteman sweep in the 50 Free with a time of 21.51 with Charles Rothenberger finishing second and Ethan Davey in third.
 
Emerson Kiefer picked up one of his two wins on the day in the 500 Free as UMass claimed the top-three finishes. The freshman posted a time of 4:42.04 to win while Jamie MacDonald and Dias Konysbayev rounded out the top-three. Kiefer added a win earlier in the day as he clocked in a top swim of 9:52.84. MacDonald grabbed a win of his own in the 200 Fly, leading a one-two finish with Casey Ransford with a time of 1:52.85.
 
Al Madden claimed both breaststroke events for the Minutemen on the afternoon, first in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 56.80 before taking the top spot again in the 200 with a time of 2:09.62. Luther Gordon followed in second in the 100 Breast with Ben Gryski touching the wall second in the 200 Breast. Gordon also added a runner-up showing in the 200 IM with Trzewik-Quinn taking third.
 
Noah Witt clocked in the top time of 1:53.15 to win the 200 Backstroke with Sekar coming in right behind in second. Will Munstermann picked up a win in the 100 Fly with a time of 50.93 and added a runner-up finish in the 100 Free with Rothenberger taking third.
 
Tommy Cotner led the UMass divers with a win in the 3-Meter Dive, scoring 240.45 to claim the top spot after finishing second in the 1-Meter Dive earlier in the morning with Noah Kanner in third.
 
The Minutemen will remain in their home pool next weekend as they are set to welcome in Boston University for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
