Tennis Begins Spring Season With Win Over Providence

Minutewomen claim victory in all nine matches over the Friars
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts tennis began its 2019 spring season with a 7-0 victory over Providence at the Bay Road Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon. Massachusetts swept all three doubles matches before it sealed the win with a dominant effort in singles, during which all six Minutewomen won.
Massachusetts quickly worked through wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles as the Minutewomen secured the first point of the match.
Freshman Jasmin Tripathy and junior Ashley Avery polished off a 6-1 triumph over Natalie Pitocco and Haley Gurski at No. 3 doubles while senior team captain Ruth Crawford and sophomore Anna Napadiy posted a 6-2 win over Aidan Epstein and Mimi Dailey. Freshman Jodie Lawrence-Taylor and junior Martina Bocchi used the tie-breaker for the win at No. 1 doubles as they secured a 7-6 (2) victory over Risa Takenaka and Sera Satkowski.
Napadiy followed as the first to secure a singles win when she tallied a 6-1, 6-1 outcome at No. 4 over Gurski. Shortly after Napadiy sealed the first singles point, Bocchi pushed Massachusetts ahead, 3-0 with her 6-3, 6-2 win over Satkowski at No. 3. Lawrence-Taylor then secured the team victory with a 6-2, 6-1 margin over Takenaka at the No. 1 spot.
The Minutewomen and Friars finished out the remaining matches, as Crawford capped an empathic 6-0, 6-4 win over Epstein at No. 2 for the team's seventh match win in as many tries on the day. Tripathy followed at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Pitocco and Jovana Bogicevic controlled play at No. 6 for a 6-1, 6-0 win over Dailey and claimed the last point of the day.
