The Minutemen return an experienced roster for first-year head coach Tim Ritchie with seven of the squad's 14 members having competed in at least one meet last fall. The group includes six individuals that scored in at least one meet in 2017 and four of UMass' top-five from the Atlantic 10 Championships. Junior Dawson Bathgate is one of the squad's top returnees, coming off a New England title in steeplechase outdoors this past spring. Bathgate scored in all seven meets last fall for the Minutemen and was the team's top finisher at the NCAA Regional Championships. Michael Famiglietti, the squad's lone senior, scored in five of six meets he competed in in 2017 and capped the year as UMass' No. 1 runner at the IC4A Championships. Outdoors in 2018 he took home silver in the 5K and finished just off the podium in the event at A-10s. Junior Erik Engstrom was the top finisher for the Minutemen three times last season, including the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships where he placed 19^th. His classmate, Kendall Westhoff, finished in UMass' top-five four times in 2017 and scored in the 10K at the A-10 and New England Championships this past spring.
