Minutemen drop 55-21 outcome at Alumni Stadium
Andrew Ford started at quarterback and finished 9-of-18 for 78 yards and two interceptions. Ross Comis split series with Ford throughout the opening three quarters and went 9-of-13 with 145 yards and one touchdown.
Michael Curtis subbed in during the fourth quarter and completed all three pass attempts for 26 yards while he also rushed three times for six yards, including a touchdown.
Jessie Britt, Brennon Dingle and Andy Isabella were the most frequent targets for Comis, Curtis and Ford. Britt led the group with five receptions covering 26 yards while Isabella totaled four catches for 95 yards. Dingle also snagged four passes for 28 yards.
Junior running back Jordan Fredericks saw his first action with the team and totaled 21 rushing yards on four attempts as well as two receptions for 18 yards, including a touchdown.
Middle linebacker Bryton Barr finished the game with a game-high and career-best 17 tackles while safety Brice McAllister added his first collegiate double-digit takedown outing with 13, including 2.0 TFLs. Barr previously set his top mark with 15 in the double-overtime 30-27 win against Appalachian State on Oct. 28, 2017.
Boston College struck on its opening drive before Massachusetts answered with a touchdown of its own during its second possession. After Comis found Isabella for a 49-yard sideline gain that set the Maroon and White up in the redzone, Young dove in from three yards away and evened the score at 7-all.
The Eagles settled into an offensive and defensive rhythm and limited Massachusetts the remainder of the half as Boston College put up 41 consecutive points, including a pair of Davon Jones scoring runs and two Kobay White touchdown receptions.
After a scoreless third quarter, BC tacked seven more onto its lead with a David Bailey eight-yard rush early in the fourth quarter.
Massachusetts earned its way back into the endzone with six minutes, five seconds to play when Comis engineered a scoring drive that ended with Fredericks' first Minuteman touchdown. Comis was flushed from the pocket to his right on third-and-10 at the Eagles' 16 yard line before he connected with Fredericks, who walked into the endzone cleanly for the score.
Massachusetts reached the final score with 87 seconds to play when Curtis capped an eight-play, 44-yard drive with a two-yard rushing score.
The Maroon and White are back in action with their second of three consecutive road games on Sat., Sept. 8 at Georgia Southern. Kickoff on ESPN+ is set for 6 p.m.
