Tennis Sweeps 4-0 Win From Army West Point

Minutewomen claim doubles point, wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 singles
WEST POINT, N.Y. - University of Massachusetts tennis raced by Army West Point for a 4-0 win at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, New York, on Saturday morning. The Minutewomen collected the doubles point and won singles matches at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 for the 4-0 sweep of the Black Knights.
Massachusetts won the doubles point with identical 6-1 victories from the No. 2 and No. 3 pairings. Janja Kovacevic teamed with Martina Bocchi at No. 2 while Ashley Avery and Ruth Crawford posted the win at No. 3.Â
In singles, the Maroon and White took home wins from Ana Yrazusta (No. 1), Kovacevic (No. 3) and Laura Moreno (No. 5). Kovacevic was the first to finish her match, doing so via a 6-0, 6-0 stopping of Genevieve McCormick, which put the Minutewomen ahead, 2-0, in team scoring.
After Yrazusta and Moreno's No. 1 doubles battle with Melanie Allen and Ana Joyner halted at 4-4 following the wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the Minutewomen stepped to the singles courts and sealed the win for Massachusetts. Moreno downed Hannah Boubel in quick fashion 6-1, 6-2 while Yrazusta followed quickly with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Joyner and 4-0 team finish to the morning.
The Minutewomen improved to 4-3 this season with the win and return to the Army West Point courts for a Sun., Feb. 18 Atlantic 10 Conference neutral site match against St. Bonaventure. The Black Knights fell to 4-4 with the loss.
