Tennis Caps Perfect Weekend With Shutout Of St. Bonaventure

Minutewomen down short-handed Bonnies for fifth win
WEST POINT, N.Y. - University of Massachusetts tennis concluded a perfect weekend at Army West Point's Lichtenberg Tennis Center with a 4-0 shutout of Atlantic 10 for St. Bonaventure on Sunday morning. The win over the Bonnies improved Massachusetts to 5-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Atlantic 10. It marked head coach Juancarlos Nunez's first conference win as the team leader.
Massachusetts won No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles on forfeits as St. Bonaventure only fielded five competitors.Â
The Minutewomen claimed the doubles point when Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi downed Mortier and Chin cleanly, 6-0. Combined with St. Bonaventure's forfeit at No. 3 doubles, Kovacevic and Bocchi's triumph sealed the doubles point.
No. 6 singles automatically put the Maroon and White ahead in team scoring, 2-0 before Ana Yrazusta and Kovacevic settled the outcome with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.
Yrazusta defeated Mortier cleanly for a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Kovacevic added a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 3 against Gunay. Ruth Crawford (No. 1), Laura Moreno (No. 4) and Jovana Bogicevic (No. 5) all led their respective matches as well.
